Well done. I think Dongtan has also broken ground and expects to have something done by the opening of Expo 2010. They were originally slated to have 10,000 homes completed and occupied, but thanks to the financial mess and it's impact on finding capital, they might have to drop that down to just a welcome center or something. 
I totally agree with you that China has become a laboratory, but it seems like Tianjin has been particularly receptive to green experiments (carbon exchange and now this; I've also heard of other rumored eco-cities planned for Tianjin). It'll be interesting to see where this goes, and whether Tianjin might try to fashion itself as a green hub, like an Austin or Portland maybe.</description>
